The OPC Controls ActiveX component
is designed to update objects in Visual Basic 6.0 Forms from OPC data. The
component features the implementation of Fast OPC technology developed by
Open Automation Software using a multi-threaded ActiveX server.
The OPC Controls component can
update standard parameters of common components of Visual Basic such as Caption,
Visible, Enable, ForeColor, BackColor, FillColor, Height, Width, Top, Left, and
many other parameters that common controls use. Data update rates can be as
fast as 10 milliseconds with no data loss if the OPC servers that are
serving the data can communicate to the hardware at that rate.
The OPC Controls supports both standard
Visual Basic 6.0 components, Global Majic Symbols, and other third party graphic
symbols.
The OPC Controls component automatically
recognizes many custom and standard components.
Click here to view the default list of controls
and parameters that are selectable. If a control you are interested in having
updated is missing from the list, contact us and we will add it to the software
at no cost to you.
The setup of the control is done easily by
dropping the OPC Controls component onto the Visual Basic Form and then
associating OPC items with parameters of the controls to update. The OPC item
associations are defined in a Microsoft Excel compatible file that can be
modified in the OPC Controls property page or from within Microsoft Excel.
No programming is required at all to accomplish the associations. An
example to display a numeric value in a form is to associate Caption of a Label
control to an OPC item. You can also optionally provide your own format of
the update string in the format “0.0000”.
Click here to see an example of the item
configuration file.
During runtime the Label control
dynamically update at your desired Update Rate. The default Update Rate is 100
milliseconds, but the function of the software allows Update Rates as low as 10
milliseconds with no lost data and extremely fast performance. The OPC Controls
ActiveX component connects to a multi-threaded ActiveX server to receive events
containing all changes in the OPC items.
The properties page of the OPC Controls
component makes it easy to browse OPC servers for OPC items available for
connection, and to browse the list of available components on the container form
along with their parameters for the control type selected.
The OPC Controls component can also be used to
read and write values directly to OPC servers with the simple to use methods
GetValue and WriteValue. This provides maximum flexibility to integrate data
within your Visual Basic application. The OPC Controls component can
automatically control the Enable and Interval parameters of a Timer object in
Visual Basic, which can then be used to execute your own custom Visual Basic
Functions and Subroutines if desired.
After the development license of OPC Controls
has been activated you can build unlimited number of applications. The applications that are
built with the development license can be distributed for use with no additional
licenses required. There are No Runtime Fees for the OPC Controls
component.
The OPC Controls component will work with any
OPC Server that is 1.0a or 2.0x compliant. Tag browsing is also supported in
the control and manual entry of server name ,OPC item, and OPC Access Path is
provided for those servers that do not provide tag browsing.
Future versions of OPC Controls will support
other ActiveX containers such as Microsoft FrontPage. With this implementation,
web pages can be built with HMI data easily and the Internet Explorer becomes
your screen browser.
Updates to OPC Controls are provided to
customers at no cost for one year from the date of purchase. These updates can
be downloaded directly from
